Mario started boxing on 2004, initiating his training in local college (UACH) boxing club. He had more than 100 amateur bouts, including national competitions, obtaining a 3rdplace on 2006. On 2007, he got a 2nd place (silver medal) in national amateur competition.
In 2008, he declined to be to join the pre-Olympic team to become a professional
boxer. His debut was on a tournament in Mexico, City, winning the tournament (4 fights) and his first title “Golden Belt”.Because of this, Mario was recognized as the best foreign fighter by Mexico City’s boxing commission.
Mario fought outside of Mexico for the first time on March 7th, 2009 against Karim
Mayfield in San Jose, CA, where he lost his first fight by decision.
On September 24th, 2011, Mario earned the WBC National Welter Championship endorsed by FECOMBOX against Ivan “El Ruso” Pereyra on a rematch fight. He still holds this title. One of the memorable defending fights was against Ramon “El Inocente” Alvarez, Saul“Canelo” Alvarez’s brother on October 20th, 2012. This fight
was broadcasted in national TV.
Mario also retains the WBC Hispanic World Championship that was obtained in a fight against Colombian fighter Dunis Liñan on May 18th, 2013.
